Core Education Modules

A significant portion of the PDGE course was comprised of core education modules. These modules aimed at equipping us with the skills that teachers would need in the 21st century classroom. The topics that were covered ranged from classroom management and educational psychology theories to the application of ICT tools in the classroom.

Curriculum Modules (History & English)

At NIE, we were also brought up to date on the latest changes in the curriculum for our teaching subjects. This was particularly important for me as the O level syllabi for both history and English have changed greatly over the last few years. Besides learning about the new curriculum, we were also exposed to a variety of teaching methods and styles that we could use in the classroom, such as using roleplay for teaching historical empathy or using theatre scripts to teach English oral skills.

GESL & Meranti

In addition to our academic work, we were also tasked with a service learning project, also known as GESL (Group Endeavours in Service Learning). To prepare us for our GESL, we also attended a team-building weekend in NIE called The Meranti Project. Our GESL project was a 6-week voluntary project at Rainbow Centre at Magaret Drive, where we ran a series of classes with the students there on skills such as reading, cooking and physical exercise.

the NIE experience.

Like all would-be teachers, I undertook the year-long Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PDGE) at NIE to prepare for the rigours of the teaching career. My time at NIE was as enjoyable as it was fruitful. Here is a showcase of some of my experiences during my PDGE year.
